stone cottage

the new blog picture is a painting that has been given to me of....THE STONE COTTAGE...my stone cottage...i dream of one day opening it to the public as a craft house....filling it with all good things handmade by bloggers...an outlet to sell our creations away from consignment constraints...built in 1864, its the original homestead on the property...i just love it...just thought you might like to have a look at why this place is called stitching at stone cottage..now you know...

edna walling hat...

i love hats...i love all sorts of hats...at this time of the year i love woolly hats.... given this pattern by a friend who also has hat love, and wears this hat in an array of colours, i had to make one....what a process...... crochet it three times too big for you,
throw it in the washing machine to felt up, and dah dah...you have a woolly bucket hat to die for......so what went wrong....4 times i made this thing....and it just would not felt to fit...it just would not work....in the end, on the fourth attempt, i took to it with the scissors
and cut out a wedge and stitched it back up again by hand.....
not a hat i can wear out for best, but cosy and warm and perfect for on the farm.....i even like the shape it has ended up.....edna walling eat your heart out....she use to garden in a hat just like this.... maybe it will inspire the gardener in me...
grrrrrrr....i hate it when something beats me......maybe one more try in the gorgeous charcoal i soooo wanted it in....
hope you all have a great weekend......

sisterly love

if this looked as good on me, as the picture in my mind of it on me, i would model it for all of you. but alas, its going to be given away to my sister who is lucky enough to drape anything on her body and look good in it. the crown was too long and the whole thing abit head hugging...more like a beanie than a hat...i was so proud of the continental cast on that worked too....all it had to do was look like 'A Better Bucket' at ravelry.com
this is the second hat that has failed me...crochet/felting didn't cut it either...i'll post pictures of that in the next day or so, because that is worth a laugh..
hummmm....what should i start next, i have to have something on the go.....

terry tourist

mid term break from school and a house full of teenage girls home for the holiday, meant we had to get out and about...show them the sights...show them the farm....show them what's in our back-yard...Albany turned on its charm in picture perfect style.....why would we live anywhere else...all this in mid winter.... perrrfect....reluctantly they go back to the city/grind tomorrow.....i wonder why they don't want to go....

to sneeze please....

school fetes...i don't like having to do them, but you just have to contribute don't you....each person doing their own bit for the greater good....something like that..... thank goodness for the very talented Craftapalooza for her Tissue Holder with her 'L.A.B.' method tutorial............any suggestions as to what else is quick and easy to WIP up, will be gratefully appreciated...sometimes inspiration is hard to find....

button love

this was a quick knit from Ravelry that is lovely to wear. it is a cotton/silk mix from the stash that i don't have the label for. a surprised teenage daughter who received the scarf on the weekend, having bought the yarn years ago to learn to knit herself, was delighted.
truth is.....i just love the hand made wooden button....there is something about the irregular shape, its feel, its jarrah colouring....i found it hard to part with ....

to bathe preserative free

every one in this family has skin problems. both mr s.a.s.c and myself can blame our parents, but my three blame us....so i was delighted to read about hand made soap over here....whilst i have played around with making soap before, the receipes have all been very involved, so i was delighted to read this being so easy and decided to give it a go..... this is batch number one, and straight from the receipe, batch number two is in the mould...it is olive oil and lavender, both good for healing the skin..... next time i am going to use oat milk instead of dairy milk to make it milder.....this is very cheap to make, and lots of fun....just wish i had some nice moulds instead of a plastic container so the bars could have some groovy shape...i have to wait a week for the bars to dry before i can use them....maybe they will be so good for the skin i will look 10 years younger...

keeping in the loop

this yarn was bought years ago by an enthusiastic 10 year old in love with purple and wanting to lean to knit....knit we did, but a scarf in footy colours. with no projects on the go, and not much time beacuse of full time work, i needed something to do just to keep in the loop...a ravelry search led to a neck warmer...for the 10 year old who is now a teenager and still liking purple....just a few more rows to go...i wonder if the weekend will be a crafty one???
